North Country Blue (NCB) emerged in the fall of 2017, when four of the best young bluegrass musicians in California – now 13 or 14 years old –decided to join forces and see what they could do. All four girls are stalwarts as performers in the California Bluegrass Association’s “Kids on Bluegrass” program and as teachers in the Youth Academy; they are already helping the next crop of young bluegrassers join the fold, even while they are earning well-deserved recognition from their adult bluegrass peers.  The band has appeared at venues and festivals throughout California (Strawberry Music Festival, the Father’s Day Festival in Grass Valley, and the Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival, among others.) Band members represent the California Bluegrass Association in the “Kids on Bluegrass Program” at the International Bluegrass Music Association’s conference in Raleigh, North Carolina. The band members come from all over Northern California – from Berkeley to the Sierra foothills to the Central Valley – and somehow manage to balance the challenges and demands of middle school and high school with becoming a highly enjoyable and sought-after bluegrass band.
