EVIE LADIN
(pronounced EEvee LAYdin – spelled E V I E L A D I N)
Tenacious, innovative string musicians/dancers, the Evie Ladin Band throws down an unusually entertaining live show with three-part harmony, instrumental chops and sonic surprises. Grounded in old-time repertoire, writing clever lyrics with mature arrangements, intermingling music and dance, the performance experience is a stand-out. “A truly original sound in new old-time Americana,” says fRoots, “think Rhiannon Giddens with less publicity and you will not be far wrong.” The polyrhythmic heat of Evie’s renowned clawhammer banjo, percussive dance and inviting vocals have been heard from A Prairie Home Companion to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Celtic Connections to Lincoln Center, Brazil to Bali. She has shared the stage with such innumerable luminaries as Laurie Lewis, Ralph Stanley, Peter Rowan, and countless contemporaries. In 2024 the ELBand celebrated the release of their first LIVE album, recorded at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, CA, with rowdy versions of songs from all five of their previous releases. Evie also released Riding the Rooster 2- her second edition of old-time fiddle & banjo duets with 17 different old-time fiddlers across the country. Considered one of the country’s most inviting square dance callers, Evie has over 300 clawhammer banjo students on Peghead Nation, hosts regular workshops in old time harmony singing and is an ace flatfoot clogger. Bass player Keith Terry brings a deep groove to his tonal percussion, is a pioneer in contemporary Body Music and founder of the International Body Music Festival. Guitarist Erik Pearson adds just the right spice and tasty solos, and also plays with cinematic old-time band the Crooked Jades and storyteller Diane Ferlatte. Together, the trio delivers soulful, exciting concerts that will move you to laugh, and cry.
